Say goodbye to soggy bread.
This overnight
French toast bake has a caramel surprise layer that makes it pure perfection.
Recipe is for 4 people. Double or triple it for a crowd.
4 thick slices of challah or French bread, cut into
2" cubes
1/4 cup butter
1/2 cup sugar
A pinch of salt
3 eggs
1 cup milk or half & half
1 teaspoon vanilla paste
1 teaspoon cinnamon
Cinnamon sugar for topping.
Preheat the oven to 375°F/190°C
Melt the butter and sugar over medium high heat until smooth. Stir in a pinch of salt. Pour the caramel into a 9" square baking dish. Add the cubes of bread.
In a bowl combine the eggs, milk, vanilla and cinnamon. Whisk well and pour over the bread.
Use a spatula to light press the bread into the egg mixture. Set aside for 15 minutes to allow for the egg mixture to be absorbed into the bread.
Sprinkle with cinnamon sugar and bake for 25 minutes.
